McMaster University and McMaster Medical Centre stand out in the Westdale neighbourhood as one of Hamilton's largest employers and adding so many dimensiosn to the wonderful community of Westdale. Known affectionately as 'Westdale Village' or the 'Village', it reflects sophistication, education and family. With so many activities to participate in, from soccer and baseball leagues, to an intimate old time movie theatre experience, there is much to enjoy.
Westdale was created with the move of McMaster to Hamilton and was one of Canada's first "planned" communities. The layout for the village offered residents easy, walking distance access to shops, parks, schools, and more. Proximity to the University and its large student population offers some challenges, which are offset mainly by the vibrant volunteer residents who support a comfortable family home environment. Many of McMaster's professors and staff also live in the Village.
The mix of upscale and more modest homes, the number of ravines and park like settings that form part of the community, as well as the easy access to highways offer convenience and comfort to the residents.
